MEET WILLIAM KING
BRIDGING THE GAP and BUILDING THE FUTURE
William King, Jr. is an exceptional leader and community advocate, serving as the CEO of Omaha Community Broadcasting. Under his guidance, this nonprofit media company has flourished, overseeing prominent internet radio stations, 1690 AM (The One) and 95.7 FM (The Boss), with the latter earning the prestigious title of the #1 Urban Radio station in Omaha.
Beyond his role at Omaha Community Broadcasting, Mr. King is the founder of Media King Communications, a Nebraska corporation that holds national certification as a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE). Through this venture, he prioritizes Connecting the Unconnected by offering affordable internet services to homes and businesses, striving to bridge the digital divide.
Mr. King's journey began in the Hilltop Homes public housing project, where he was raised by his mother, Mary, while his father served in the Air Force abroad. Despite facing hardships, his mother, who couldn't read or write and had worked picking cotton, prioritized her son's education and made countless sacrifices. In 1983, Mr. King graduated from Omaha Bryan High School, continuing his academic pursuits at Midland University, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in behavioral science. While at Midland, his exceptional talent in sports led to numerous accolades, including first-team all-conference honors in Basketball and All-American status in the triple jump. In recognition of his outstanding athletic achievements and community leadership in Omaha, he was inducted into the Midland University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997.
Throughout his career, Mr. King has consistently demonstrated his commitment to helping others. He has served as a Douglas County probation officer, and his leadership extended to organizing the Positive Havoc boys' and girls' college basketball recruiting camps. His vast experience encompasses various fields, including counseling, human resources, public policy, political organizing, sales, public relations, management, and court systems.
In 2004, Mr. King ran for the Douglas County Board, and although he didn't secure victory, this opportunity opened doors for him. He was appointed to lead Mayor Fahey's North Omaha campaign office, where his leadership was pivotal in securing a victory. Additionally, his influence played a significant role in the establishment of the Nebraska Democratic Party Black Caucus.
More recently, Mr. King's company, Media King Communications, achieved a significant milestone by completing the first Internet Infrastructure project on the Omaha Indian Tribal Reservation in Macy, Nebraska. This endeavor exemplifies his unwavering commitment to expanding connectivity and empowering communities.
